Its been 1 year since i've gone to Korea and was craving some good Zzimdak goodness in Singapore and so we came to try this place. The hype has more or less died down since it opened a year ago but it was still packed during dinner with no space to sit if you came at 730pm or later.
The place and decor is simple and reminiscent of the way the actual Korea restaurants are run. Small table, quick service and unlimited appetizers.
The appetizers are of course, traditional korean Kimchi (fermented cabbage) and pickles. And let me say that i enjoyed both of them quite a bit! Once is sourish, crunch and appetizing while the other is spicy, crunch and pretty authentic. Not sure if they bought this else or made their own kimchi but it is definitely my kind of kimchi.
Steamed Egg ($9.90)
This is such a simple dish and yet, its a real treat to eat. Its steamed egg in an earthen pot with a superb fluffy texture. Its hot, its tasty and its just plain comfort food.
Mini Seafood Pancakes ($9.90)
These mini seafood pancakes are a surprise. Each piece is bursting with flavor and the sweetness of seafood. You can taste prawns, squid and fish in every bite and we were fighting to get the last piece. Its great when its hot.
Tofu Kimchi Soup ($9.90)
A little too spicy and a little too salty for our liking. Perhaps the other soups would fare better.
Boneless Jjimdak ($59.90)
The star of the day and the whole reason we came to this store was this dish. And it is glorious. We're not big spice eaters and so we choose the simple boneless jjimdak. The taste is very similar to the Yeolbong Andong Zzimdak which i reviewed previously. And the portion is as generous as its korean counterparts which gets it lots of points for authenticity and generosity. Its still very spicy i must say and i was sweating buckets by the end of the day.
Overall, this is as good as it gets without paying $500 for a ticket to fly to korea for. It may be slightly more expensive but i would say its worth it. Kudos to the guys who brought this taste to Singapore. It was truly a slice of Korea
Verdict: Authentic taste worth queuing for.
