Lorong Ah Soo Lor Mee

Lorong Ah Soo Lor Mee

Address: #02-51, Hainanese Village Centre, Blk 105 Hougang Ave 1
Budget: $3.50 - 5

Another stall in Lorong Ah Soo that perpetually has a long queue is this little gem of a Lor Mee. It was a lucky day that i arrived with only 6 people in the queue during lunch and it didn't take too long before it was my turn.

You'll notice the very friendly and animated uncle taking orders and cracking jokes and the nice auntie making the noodles with as much as speed as she can to serve everyone. Overall a very good vibe.

The Lor Mee ($3.50)

I ordered a slightly different lor mee because i was dressed in office wear and didn't want to sweat too much during lunch. So no chili, minimal garlic and bee hoon/ mee sua for the noodles.

The noodles were good and covered in the rich thick gravy. Gravy wise was moderately starchy and flowy with a good portion of taste decided by the person ordering. I say this because you can tailor it to your liking by adding more chili, more vinegar or other condiments to suit your own palates. For other parts of the dish, it comes with the usual braised egg, fish cake, ngor hiang and shredded chicken. All were very serviceable for what it is but not outstanding.

Overall, its a good place for a Lor Mee fix and a simple meal. Just don't expect to be blown away.

Verdict: Try to catch it when there's minimal queue.
