Helmed by Chef Peter Teo who was in charge of Wasabi Tei many years ago. Kaiware is located in China square central in a rather inconspicuous corner with a good following of customers, myself included, who really enjoyed the times of long queues, cramped spaces and absolutely good food at great prices. This was back before bara chiraishi became so mainstream.
We were here on a weekday and took the lunch set which was $18++ which included drinks, appetizer, miso soup, chawan mushi, fruits and a bara chiraishi don. Pretty value for money i'd say.

The meal was ordered from an ipad and the space in the restaurant was really good now. There's no need to queue for long moments as the chef now has a team of people helping with preparation and service along the way.
Service was great with the chef even coming to greet us....with a smile! And even had a nice short chit chat session with him as well.

Food-wise, everything was as it should be. The appetisers was great, the chawan mushi hot and had lots of ingredients such as shrimp and mushrooms inside and the bara chiraishi don had good fresh fish pieces in them for an enjoyable meal. If i had to pick something, i would say the bara don was a tad small in size but that's mostly just me because i've had the thick slices in his previous chiraishi don so my expectations may be a bit off.

Overall, its nice find the chef again and to try his new venture. Will be back to try the chiraishi sets.

Verdict: Good but needs another visit.
